The core of the invention is the combination, in one operational loop, of three things the industry historically kept separate: probabilistic modeling of network behavior (transit times, dwell, disruption, cost as fitted distributions rather than constants), scenario-based optimization that chooses decisions performing well across those distributions, and continuous re-estimation from live network data so the distributions track reality as it drifts. Each piece exists in the literature. The claims cover the integrated system operating on live maritime and supply chain state.
Why the integration is the invention
A model that is never re-fitted goes stale. An optimizer without honest distributions is deterministic planning with extra steps. Estimation without an optimizer downstream is analytics, interesting and inert. The engineering difficulty, and the commercial value, sits in the loop: state flows in, distributions update, scenarios regenerate, decisions re-optimize, outcomes flow back as new ground truth. Making that loop fast enough, stable enough, and trustworthy enough to run a real network is the work the patent reflects.

What it means practically
For customers, the patent is one signal among several: it dates the underlying work (systems like this are not built in a funding cycle), it survived examination against prior art, and it anchors more than a decade of production deployment across modes and geographies. We are measured, as we should be, on realized outcomes in live networks rather than on filings. But in a market where "AI-powered optimization" appears on every homepage, a granted patent on the specific machinery, held by the team that operates it in production, is a useful sorting device. It says the depth is real and examinable, which is exactly what a claim of depth should be.
